David Villa has reunited with former Barcelona and Spain teammate Andres Iniesta after his move to Vissel Kobe.

The former Valencia striker will officially link up with the Japanese club in January following his departure from Major League Soccer side, New York City.

The move to Kobe will see Villa link up once again with Iniesta, whom he played with at Barcelona between for three years as well as for the Spanish national team, with both players part of the successful teams at the UEFA European Championships in 2008 and the 2010 World Cup.

Villa reacted to the move on Instagram. He wrote: “Thank you for the warm welcome! Can’t wait to get started!”

Despite being 37-year-old, Villa’s goal-scoring abilities remain very much intact, as shown by his impressive record of 14 goals in 23 appearances for New York City FC during the just concluded MLS season.

Villa and Iniesta aren’t the only former European stars on the payroll of Vissel Kobe, with former Germany international Lukas Podolski also a member of the club.

Podolski has five goals and six assists in 24 appearances in the Japanese league this season.

The Japanese club are in 10th place on the league standings, and will hope that Villa’s arrival will provide more confidence and momentum to the team.
