Napoli held to a 1-1 draw by RB Salzburg with the coach abandoning his post-match press conference.

Erling Braut Haaland continued scored at the San Paolo, giving RB Salzburg the lead against Napoli at San Paolo. Hirving Lozano brought them back to parity in the 44th minute but that was it.

The Blues could not add to their tally despite hitting the woodwork through Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne. It was a disappointing end for Napoli as the registered their third draw in four matches.

The team’s poor form in Serie A propelled President Aurelio De Laurentiis to order ritiro (forced training retreat) on the team.

It seems that the ritiro did not have an impact and the players have decided against following it, returning to their homes after the match.

It is unknown whether it was a club decision to end the ritiro or players unanimously disobeyed orders. With a sour mood in the camp, it showcases a troubling chain of events at the San Paolo.

In the aftermath of the Champions League draw, Carlo Ancelotti abandoned his press conference. It is his second offense after openly stated his disagreement with the ritiro at Napoli.

“The club has taken this decision and we have to accept it. If you ask me what I think, I will say that I don’t agree with the decision made by the club. However, the coach must be the coach. These are the decisions that are taken by the club.” Ancelotti told reporters prior to their Champions League meeting with RB Salzburg.

“The President called me a few moments ago to wish me good luck. Nothing has changed, the decision has been made by the club, who are rightly worried, just like we are. But regarding the importance of the match tomorrow, it’s really just a detail.”

Napoli are going through a rut in Serie A but have a good chance to secure a slot in Champions League knockout stages.

With two matches remaining, the Italian side are second behind Liverpool in Group E.  They have four points advantage over Salzburg.and a better head to head record.

However, with Ancelotti in open disagreement with the Napoli president and players dissenting, there can be upheaval at San Paolo.
