Due to a scheduling conflict, Riquelme made the decision to postpone his farewell match with Leo Messi in Boca Juniors.
To those who had no idea about this, Riquelme is having a farewell match at Boca Juniors and Leo Messi is going to be a part of it.
However, a recent interview informed us that Roman will have to postpone the match due to a scheduling conflict.
As it’s customary in any major club that has an elect president, Boca Juniors is celebrating elections on December 8.
To the surprise of many, Riquelme will be part of the committee that will attempt to gain control of the institution.
He will be the VP’s second in command, he will start his career in sports politics if Jorge Amor Ameal wins the votes from the associates.
Roman recently offered an interview to give a proper update on what is going to happen with his campaign.
Plus, the legendary player confirmed that his homage at ‘La Bombonera’ stadium will be postponed until further notice.
Roman doesn’t want this game to have any type of scheduling conflict with any other event that is near that date.
Before this decision was made, Riquelme was going to have his homage farewell match on December 12 and Leo Messi agreed to be part of this event.
In fact, the Barcelona star even agreed to wear the Boca Juniors jersey for the first time in his career.
However, he was going to struggle to get to this date because he is playing ‘El Clasico’ on December 18.
During an interview with Fox Sports in Argentina, Riquelme explained the reason he will postpone his game and he also talked about the chance of becoming a Boca Juniors board member.
“I will run as the vice-president’s second in command,” said Roman.
“Both Ameal and Mario made the commitment to guide me and help me understand the club a little better from the inside out.”
“Running things won’t be easy, but we will try to see how things work during the next four years and we will see if we are ready after that.”
“I am thankful to the people who officiate all of this because they are the ones who tried to convince me.”
“But I’ve made my decision and I want the Boca Juniors fans to know from my lips.”
“My farewell match needs to be a giant celebration, nothing else can happen around those dates.”
“I don’t want people thinking about anything else, we don’t want to bother anybody.”
“I will insist to see if I’m lucky enough to see Messi playing with my son at ‘La Bombonera’.”
“If I had to choose, I would sign Mbappe, Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo on the same year…”
“They told me the club has money, soI decided to dream a little bit. We will see what happens later,” he joked.
Messi also confirmed he would love to play with Riquelme.
To those who are not aware of this, Leo Messi actually has a very special relationship with Juan Roman Riquelme.
Before the Barcelona star became the legend that he is today, Argentina had Roman as the biggest player.
When Leo was still a teenager, they shared the locker room in tournaments such as the 2007 Copa America or the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
They weren’t able to win a single trophy together, but they remain friends to this day.
This close relationship is what gave Riquelme the courage to ask Messi for his time to play in his farewell match.
Leo obviously agreed as he considers Roman as one of the idols from his childhood.
Now that the game has been postponed, Messi will have a better chance to play this match and honor the legendary Juan Roman Riquelme.

We never got to see these two players perform in their prime, which leaves us thinking what would’ve happened if the best Riquelme would’ve played the 2014 FIFA World Cup final.
