Riqui Puig leaves the FC Barcelona debate wide open

After his impressive performance during the Catalonia international match against Venezuela, Barcelona product Riqui Puig opens a debate again.

We’ve been following FC Barcelona product Riqui Puig for some time now, the Catalan teenager who made his debut with the first squad in Copa del Rey this season has given a whole new opening to a debate that has remained active throughout the whole season.

The wonder kid was part of the call-up list for the international match between the Catalonia National Team and Venezuela last Monday, all he needed was a single minute to provide an assist that gave his side the final victory against the South American squad.

In every single showing that he has with either a national team or the Catalan club, this player keeps proving that his tiny physique is not an obstacle for his immense talent and he is one of the most sought-after young players in the world right now regardless of how light he is at the moment.

Puig has that special kind of dribbling skills that very few players at his age possess, which is more than enough reason to spark a healthy debate about his role in Ernesto Valverde’s squad for the upcoming future.

There are many different trains of thought in regards to Riqui Puig, something that he is ready to play alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, some also believe that he needs to lift some weights, and some even demand that he leaves on a loan to grab a bit of experience.

But all this noise has never really phased Puig, this player just keeps to himself and maintains that same level of performance regardless of who he faces.

During this last match against Venezuela, the kid made an instant impact a game where all the alleged Catalan best players were already on the bench and he hardly even broke a sweat.

The young player had a good 39 minutes of the second half to play against a national team, it’s safe to say that perhaps this has been his biggest challenge yet and he responded with another memorable performance that leaves everybody wondering why Valverde still thinks about leaving him at Barcelona B and he doesn’t just hand him his league debut with the first squad.

Puig is another one of those precocious talents who is skipping stages of their development at an accelerated rate, there is no doubt that Puig is more than ready to play with the top players of the Spanish La Liga and the club’s technical staff is making a mistake if they are even considering that a loan is the best option for him.

We still have no idea what Ernesto Valverde is thinking, but Puig is the future for FC Barcelona and he should be treated as such.

Kieran Trippier impresses for Atletico, whilst Spurs fans say, “Typical”

Kieran Trippier played well in his first La Liga game for Atletico Madrid, adding an assist to go with the performance. Former Burnley and Tottenham...

We only need to stop and admire the pass between the lines that Riqui Puig gave to Montoya during the second half right after coming in for Gerard Pique, that’s all the proof that we need to let us know what this mercurial talent is all about.

This kid was already the main attraction during FC Barcelona’s most recent summer tour in 2018, he already plays like a veteran and his physique is not an obstacle that prevents him from facing opponents who almost double him in body weight.

The most ideal position for Puig is right behind the strikers, we are talking about a player who is a mixture of Cesc Fabregas, Xavi Hernandez, and Andres Iniesta combined.

We truly believe that it is only a matter of time before manager Ernesto Valverde eventually decides to hand Riqui Puig his La Liga debut this season, sending him on a loan would be a terrible mistake and a wasted opportunity to watch one of the biggest La Masia talents develop in front of our eyes.

With players like Carles Aleña, Frenkie de Jong, and Puig himself at the club, FC Barcelona’s future looks bright as a summer day.
