Barcelona great Rivaldo believes Christian Eriksen would be a great addition for Real Madrid and could even help the fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo

The Tottenham star’s future is in doubt with just 18 months left on his current contract.

Talks over a new deal between Eriksen’s representatives and Spurs have not progressed recently, although coach Mauricio Pochettino played it down on Thursday.

But the likes of ex-Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend suggested that a reason for the delay is due to Eriksen’s heart no longer being at Spurs.

Since arriving from Ajax in 2013, Eriksen has emerged as one of the Premier League’s star performers.

This has led to reported interest from Barcelona and Real, with Rivaldo backing a move to the latter.

The Brazilian believes Eriksen can help bolster the Real attack and even replace Ballon d’Or favourite Luka Modric.

“Christian Eriksen – linked with a move in reports this week – is a very talented midfielder who could clearly get a place at Real Madrid and even replace Luka Modric if needed,” Rivaldo told Betfair.

“He has a clever approach in the final third and he helps the team attack which has proven to be crucial for Tottenham.

“This would especially be good for a Real Madrid team which has struggled offensively since Ronaldo’s departure.

“A good attacking midfielder must be more than a skilful passer or playmaker, he should also be a threat in front of goal and score a good number of goals, which Eriksen has done in previous seasons.”

Eriksen has managed 57 goals and 73 assists in 239 appearances for Spurs in all competitions.
