Rivaldo believes Kylian Mbappe has no other choice than to leave Paris Saint-Germain to fulfil his potential as the heir to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Still just 20 years old, Mbappe is one of Europe’s most renown footballers having excelled for AS Monaco, PSG and the French national team. It’s led many to tip him as the successor to five-time Ballon d’Or winners Messi and Ronaldo.
The talented forward fueled this belief by surpassing Messi as the youngest scorer to score 15 or more Champions League goals on route to bagging a hat-trick in PSG’s 5-0 thrashing of Club Brugge on Wednesday.
Despite the injury setbacks this season, Mbappe has now taken his tally up to six goals and four assists in eight appearances.
But Rivaldo reckons the Frenchman will never live up to his true potential should he continue playing in his homeland.
So, the one-time Ballon d’Or winner feels Mbappe must seek out a move to the more competitive Premier League or La Liga someday.
“There’s no doubt Mbappé has the qualities to become one of the best in the world, as he is playing great football and has huge potential,” Rivaldo told Betfair.
“He would be able to develop his talent by playing La Liga or the Premier League. Ligue 1 is clearly below the competitive level of Spain or England.
“With all due respect to PSG, I believe he must leave for a Spanish or big English team in the future to confirm himself as the heir to Messi or Ronaldo. The best players need to play in the best leagues.
“But I think it would be tough for Barcelona to sign him in the future, as he is very expensive due to his young age, world champion status and natural ability that makes him one of the biggest prospects in the world of football.
“If Barca had so many problems in trying to sign Neymar, just imagine how much PSG would be asking for the Frenchman, so it’s almost impossible to bring this excellent player to Catalonia at the moment.”
