Barcelona’s legendary ex-midfielder, Rivaldo, said he believes Lionel Messi is the best player on the planet, but he admitted Cristiano Ronaldo deserved the Ballon d’Or award
According to GOAL, the former Brazil midfielder has had his say ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona going head-to-head this weekend in one of the biggest rivalries in world football.
The two icons of Spanish football will face each other on Saturday afternoon, and their clash will be another chapter in the book of one of the world’s most prestigious sporting rivalries. By the way, Barca are trying to catch up with Madrid in the overall head-to-head rankings.
Real have come out on top in 72 of their 174 La Liga meetings with Barca and have a greater trophy collection than the Catalan outfit, though trail Ernesto Valverde’s side in the table this term, GOAL continues.
There will be a huge rivalry included in the rivalry, as Messi and Ronaldo meet once more on the pitch, in a game which half of the world will be watching.
The former Barcelona great Rivaldo has now opened up about the topic and gave his opinion on the matter at hand. He said, even though Ronaldo is a beast, Messi is still the best player in the world.
“I would like to play with Messi, it would be amazing. He is the best of the world, the one who makes more differences. Ronaldo? He is the most dangerous player at Real,” Rivaldo told Betfair.
“It is hard to stop him, like Messi, because both score a lot of goals and you never know what is going to be the next thing they will invent for scoring.”
Asked what he thinks about this year’s Ballon d’Or, he replied: “If Ronaldo won is because he deserved it. In my time there were more players than today challenging for being the best in the world.”
