With his amazing performance against Shakhtar playing for Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez proved why he was the best transfer in England last summer.

After Riyad Mahrez’s latest performance for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola can be more relaxed because the Algerian winger is exactly the player he had been looking for.

Raheem Sterling’s contribution to the squad is quite amazing already, the manager has other great offensive players like Sergio Agüero with his goals, Gabriel Jesus with his killer instinct, Leroy Sane with his speed, Kevin de Bruyne with his passing, and even David Silva with his leadership.

But the Catalan manager knew that he still didn’t have that major talent who had the potential to play at a level that can be compared to other great players like Neymar, Mbappé, Ronaldo, and even Lionel Messi himself.

Well, Guardiola made a wager at the start of the season and he proved that it will pay off in a big way during this Wednesday’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

This elusive competition is the one that needs players like Mahrez, people who could risk dribbling when the moment is at fever pitch and isn’t afraid of risking the ball in dangerous positions on the pitch.

Mahrez offers that same skill Pep Guardiola always tends to look for in players, especially once he left FC Barcelona and turned Messi into his gold standard.

Despite having repeated many times that Lionel Messi is a unique player who may never get replaced talent-wise, it is now clear that Pep has found the one who will take Manchester City to the next level and his plan seems to be working perfectly so far.

This Wednesday’s test against Shakhtar Donetsk was perfect for Mahrez just before one of the biggest challenges of his short-lived career as a Citizen, which is the Manchester Derby from next weekend where Guardiola’s side will clash against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

The Red Devils might have felt like an easy target for Manchester City a few weeks back, but things have drastically changed as of today and this match has suddenly transformed into a major event for next weekend in world football.

Absolutely everybody will be turning on their television to watch this game all around the globe, this seems like the perfect opportunity for top players like Mahrez to prove that they are willing to go the extra mile for that protagonist role they have been craving for so long.

Aldridge confident Liverpool will win ‘frantic’ Premier League title race

John Aldridge boldly tipped Liverpool to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title, even though he expects his old club to drop points before the end of the season.

Now that we are looking at the impact Mahrez is having on Manchester City, that €70 million price tag doesn’t seem as steep as everybody thought at first.

Just yesterday, Manchester City announced that Riyad Mahrez has earned the recognition as the best player for the month of October in the club and there was no better way to celebrate than this Wednesday’s performance.

We are eager to see the Algerian magician develop into the player that Pep Guardiola envisions him to become, the Catalan manager rarely makes a mistake when it comes to predictions because he has a deep knowledge of his players and there are few instances in which the transfer he bet on disappoints him.

While there have been isolated cases like the one with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona, there is no doubt that Riyad Mahrez is looking like he may become Pep Guardiola’s biggest jackpot since he started working as a professional manager at the highest level.

It may be only a matter of time before we are all ready talking about Mahrez competing again for the Player of the Year Award in English football, his limits are literally endless because he is playing in a club that can give him everything he dreamed of.
