Robert Lewandowski’s brilliant acrobatic effort at SC Freiburg has earned him March’s Bundesliga Goal of the Month prize.
The Polish striker struck six times in just four Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich during March to help the club move briefly back into the top spot for the first time since September.
But Niko Kovac’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Freiburg in the final game of the month which saw them surrender the lead back to rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Although things could have been worse for Bayern during the match after Lucas Holer’s header put Freiburg in front following a sluggish start from the Bavarians.
After a goal-line clearance from Bayern, however, Lewandowski rose to the rescue by brilliantly controlling the ball in mid-air and then pulling off a scissor-kick to fire in an equaliser. It was the Poland international’s 199th Bundesliga goal at the time.
Now the Bundesliga has announced Lewandowski fended off competition from FC Augsburg’s Jonathan Schmid for the March goal award.
