Robert Pires has mentioned that he would like to see France lock horns with England while hoping to avoid Spain next year.
Both England and France finished the EURO 2020 qualification stage after topping their groups. England dropped points only once during their loss to the Czech Republic while the French lost five points.
As a result, France is drawn in a different pot than England and could potentially go against each other. And Robert Pires has encouraged the prospect. The Frenchman is keen to face Gareth Southgate’s men but would want to avoid Spain in the EURO 2020.
“What is for sure is that we are going to draw a big team because unfortunately, we are in Pot 2,” Robert Pires told Omnisport.
“Which one would I like to play against? France vs England would be nice. I think that we are strong but the English are having a renaissance and [Gareth] Southgate has built a good team, quite young, with a bit of experience and they can be a good surprise during the next Euros.
“And as you know the final is in London so they will be motivated.
“The team to avoid is always Spain. They remain very strong, they are very skilled and they cause us problems every time,” the former Arsenal winger concluded.
