Sergi Roberto’s agent insists his client has no plans to leave Barcelona and the club has no intention of selling him.
If the talk that Pep Guardiola has earmarked the 28-year-old defender as the ideal acquisition this summer, today’s news will be a bitter blow to that plan.
It is not thought that Roberto was on City’s list of top go-to guys, but more the kind of player to provide competition and utility in an already impressive squad.
Regardless of the purpose or the desire, it appears that he is going nowhere anytime soon according to his agent Josep Maria Orobitg.
He told the Manchester Evening News, that there is no truth in any of the talk from either club’s standpoint.
“Sergi Roberto has no plans to leave Barca.”
“Now there are no clubs showing interest and Barca has not submitted any proposals for the player to us.”
Guardiola will need to improve his team if he is to provide stiffer competition to Liverpool and ward off the challenge from the likes of United and Chelsea next season.
