Brazilian teenage star Rodrygo doubts he will be leaving Santos for Real Madrid during the winter transfer window with a deal in place for July

The 17-year-old forward will arrive in Madrid in July after a reported deal of €45m was agreed between Real and Santos for his services.

And Rodrygo doubts it will be put forward, despite the fact he turns 18 in January.

“I don’t believe there is a chance I will leave for Madrid early,” Rodrygo told Gazeta Esportiva. “It’s agreed that I’m going in July.

“That is the agreement between Santos and Real Madrid.”

Great things are expected from Rodrygo, who finished fourth behind winner Kylian Mbappe for the inaugural Kopa Trophy on Monday night in Paris.

Solari: Real Madrid will fight for La Liga title until the end

Manager Santiago Solari insists Real Madrid will not give up on winning La Liga, despite falling nine points behind leaders Barcelona.

But the Brazilian, who is also Santos’ youngest ever goalscorer, will retain his focus on his current club rather than dwell on the future.

“I’m focused on Santos,” added Rodrygo.

“When I get there, I will think about it.

“For the moment I just want to stand out with Santos.”

Rodrygo has managed nine goals and three assists in 43 appearances for Santos this year in all competitions.
