Nicolo Barella is getting a lot of interest from some of the biggest teams in Europe but Roma have more or less confirmed where the midfielder is heading.

While Nicolo Barella hasn’t come out in the open with regards to his future ambitions, it is clear where the player would be playing next season.

A crazy rumor started swirling in the Twittersphere that the 22 year old had been presented at the headquarters of Paris Saint-Germain. It however, always seemed unlikely that the Italy international will link up with Marco Verratti at Parc des Princes.

Despite his young age, Nicolo Barella has already gained a lot of experience in top flight Italian football. He played 21 games for Cagliari in what was his rookie season in 2015/16. Now, he has played over 100 games in the Serie A and can be considered one of the experienced players in the league.

His performances have earned him tons of comparisons but Nicolo Barella has remained grounded. The young Sardinian has been at the centre of a transfer tug of war for his signature between Roma and Internazionale.

While the Romans have managed to convince Cagliari, the youngster doesn’t want to go to the capital. This has also been confirmed by the club’s sporting director, Gianluca Petrachi.

While speaking to Foot Mercato, the former Torino man revealed that he never made first contact with Cagliari.

“Personally, I never called Barella, it was Cagliari who came to us saying that negotiations were slow with Inter.

For me, the operation was as difficult yesterday as it is today. Cagliari would like to transfer him to AS Roma but the player has chosen Inter Milan.Barella can call me to tell me that he has reconsidered his decision and we can see if we can discuss, but for me, at this moment, this chapter is closed.”
