AS Roma have ended their interest in signing Manchester United’s Daley Blind before the end of the transfer window on Wednesday night
Following the sale of left back Emerson Palmieri for £17.6m to Premier League side Chelsea, the Italian side have been conducting a last minute replacement for the Brazilian and Blind was being heavily touted as a potential replacement.
But according to Italian football expert Gianluca di Marzio, the Serie A side will instead sign Jonathan Silva from Sporting Lisbon, with a five year deal and a £5.2m transfer fee having been agreed on.
Following a frustrating season, where Blind has fallen further down the pecking order at Old Trafford, the left-back’s father and agent explained to LaRoma24, according to football365, that the move collapsed due to United’s refusal to accept a loan deal.
“Time is running out because it’s the last day of the transfer window,” Blind Sr told LaRoma24.
“Yes, I can confirm that Roma want him but Manchester United don’t want to let him go on loan, only on a permanent basis.
“They don’t want to sell him now, only in the summer. The price is good, but the operation is difficult.
“It’s really difficult [for a transfer to happen] because Manchester United want to keep him to play in the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup.
“The group is very united and they want him to stay.
“Italy would be an interesting choice for him, but Manchester United is a huge club that doesn’t need to sell players and doesn’t need the money.
“[Manager Jose] Mourinho wants to keep this group together. Maybe if we had a few days, a week perhaps, but we’ve only got a few hours.
“It’s really very difficult.”
