One of the most exciting players in football history is on the tail-end of his career. He might not be as fast or as explosive as he once was but he can still make a tremendous impact and single-handedly turn games around.

But he’s not a young man anymore. His 40th birthday is rapidly approaching and many people are now speculating about what his future holds. On websites like thepunterspage.com you can even bet on where he might end up. In this text we’re going to talk about Ronaldo’s, and by extension, Manchester United’s future.

Manchester United’s future

While Christiano Ronaldo might be on a graceful downward curve, the great Manchester United have practically fallen off a cliff in the last couple of years. Gone are the days of Sir Alex and instead the Old Trafford faithful are time and time again forced to bear witness to one embarrassing performance after the other. The club is in many ways rotten from the inside out and it’s going to take some time to clean up.

One of the first steps has been hiring Erik ten Hag as the new manager. The Dutchman has led an impressive development at Ajax in the last couple of years and many fans hope that he might be just what the club needs to get back on an even keel.

Even so, it’s going to take years before Manchester United are back in any sort of recognizable state. Ronaldo’s contract is set to expire in 2023, with an option for an additional year.

Ronaldo’s future in the club

Although there are no certainties when it comes to what his future might hold, some experts have drawn up two possible scenarios. The first being that Ronaldo gets sold to another major club where he can have an immediate impact. Ronaldo loves winning more than everything else, and going to a club where he can help tip the scales and end his career with winning a title would be the ultimate crescendo to what already is an absolutely stunning resume.

The other is that Manchester United manage to turn the ship around and Ronaldo decides to exercise the option and extend his contract. To do this though, many believe that Ronaldo needs to see some serious improvements across the board in regards to several things around his current club. Who knows what the future holds, but Ronaldo is expected to at least play until the next European championships.
