With goals from Gimenez and Godin during the second half, Atletico Madrid defeated Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus at the Wanda Metropolitano.

It was the crucial day in which we would know if Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus would be able to beat Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano, a Champions League night that promised so many emotions just due to the atmosphere alone.

Everybody was expecting a very defensive match between two clubs that specialize in their tactical prowess, the Colchoneros really suffered during the first half against a determined Juventus squad that Cristiano Ronaldo led with the most chances before the break.

Massimiliano Allegri requested his players to go forward with everything they had during the first half, they nearly got that initial goal but the Atletico Madrid defense was on point and could hold the attacks throughout the first 45 minutes.

‘Cholo’ Simeone decided against using the attacking trio formed by Griezmann, Costa, and Morata by leaving the former Real Madrid player on the bench from the beginning.

But Alvaro would definitely make an impact during the second half after coming in to replace Diego Costa, the Brazilian player had his chance to score goals during the first half but all he got was a yellow card that brought him a suspension for the second leg of this Round of 16.

After the second half started we had a goalless draw in our hands, people were starting to get impatient because this result was very negative for the Colchoneors as they would need to play in Turin with no advantage at all.

This was the moment in which Diego Simeone decided to give Alvaro Morata his chance to play this match against his former club, and it was probably the best decision that the Argentine manager made during the whole match.

Alvaro came in nearly after a full hour of the game was passed, his inclusion in the game created an impact that completely changed the outcome of the game for Atletico Madrid.

The final 20 minutes of the match was thrilling to watch, Morata scored a goal with a header after Filipe Luis assisted him but the referee disallowed the goal after watching a foul from Morata on Chiellini through VAR.

This was the second goal that the video assistant referee took from Morata, the replay shows that the Morata barely touched the Italian defender but that was enough for the ref to call the foul against Atletico.

Match Preview: Portugal vs Serbia

Portugal host Serbia on Monday night, as Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates, chase their first win in the EURO 2020 qualifiers.

But this setback motivated the Atletico players, Morata was crucial in the very next important play during a corner kick.

The Spanish striker struck the ball with a header and it was rejected by the defense, the rebound was picked up by defender Gimenez and he was the one who scored Atletico’s first goal of the evening.

Only a few minutes after the first goal, captain Diego Godin was the player who scored a second goal after another set piece that the Colchoneros were able to transform into that final 2-0 advantage.

This result is more than welcome for Atletico Madrid, it gives them a massive step forward in the right direction and lets them go to Juventus Stadium with the chance of scoring a single away goal and pretty much seal their ticket to the Champions League quarterfinals.

Alvaro Morata’s luck against his former clubs continues with another great performance against Juventus on Wednesday, he was unlucky to get another goal disallowed but he was still very important to get this very important victory against a frustrated Cristiano Ronaldo who wasn’t enough to beat Atletico at the Metropolitano this evening.

All Real Madrid fans will certainly rub it on the Portuguese forward’s face, he wasn’t able to win the first of the Round of 16 matches and Los Blancos did.
