The global football icon added another star to his already sparkling resume by beating his eternal rival to another prestigious accolade.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been declared the Player of the Century at the Dubai Globe football Awards on Sunday.
The multiple Champions League, Club World Cup, Serie A, La Liga, and Premier League winner was declared as the best player of the 2000s ahead of FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
CR7 was presented the award by Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council.
The best players, coaches, clubs, and agents were also honored in the gala night organized in collaboration with Dubai Sports Council and Dubai International Sports Conference at the Armani Hotel under the shimmer of the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa.
“I want to thank Globe football, the clubs I have played for, all of you, my family, my girlfriend, who has been with me through ups and downs,” said an ecstatic Ronaldo upon receiving the award.
“This is never going to be over and we can enjoy more. Thanks for the trophy.
“It is a great achievement. I am really proud and happy. This motivates me to carry on the journey and enjoy the moments, fans, players and all that life is giving me.”
