Even in defeat, Cristiano Ronaldo still manages to add to his already big list of records by equalling Bastian Schweinsteiger’s record of 38 appearances in World Cup and European finals combined

Saturday’s game against Uruguay in the Round of 16 of the World Cup was Ronaldo’s 38th match in a major international tournament and he has now equalled former Germany international Schweinsteiger.

In comparison to the German, Ronaldo has now participated in 17 World Cup games and 21 in the European championships while Schweinsteiger made 18 appearances at the World Cup with a further 20 in the Euros.

While the tournament in Russia ended on a low note for Portugal with an earlier than expected exit at the Round of 16 stage to Uruguay, Ronaldo leaves with new records in the bag after he also surpassed Hungary great Ferenc Puskas as Europe’s all-time leading international scorer with a new record of 85 goals.
