The Portugal captain reportedly told de Ligt to join Juventus as the young Dutchman continues to assess his options this summer
Netherlands youngster, Matthijs de Ligt has revealed that Portugal captain, Cristiano Rolando asked him if he would be coming to Juventus this summer.
The Ajax captain is one of the hottest prospects in world football at the moment. Being the centre of focus throughout the year, de Ligt is yet to reveal his future club. It is clear that the teenager is going to leave the Amsterdam giants. However, what remains to be seen is where he would end up playing.
It was initially thought that it would be a straightforward move from Ajax to Barcelona. However, following some commanding displays in the Champions League, the queue for his signature is becoming really long. Manchester United are believed to be among the favorites to land the Dutchman and could offer him better wages. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to build his team around De Ligt.
But the English Premier League giants are not the only ones. The likes of PSG and Juventus are also in the running. And what makes everything so interesting is that the youngster hasn’t given out much in terms of where he would end up.
Juventus on their part, could do well with a young centre back. Andrea Barzagli has retired while Giorgio Chielleni is in the wrong side of his 30s. The Turin giants are keen on winning the Champions League and De Ligt could be their final piece of the puzzle.
And Ronaldo has done his part by letting the youngster know that Juventus could be a great option. Following Portugal’s Nations League final win over Netherlands, the Juventus star tried to entice De Ligt into signing for Juve.
Speaking to NOS, de Ligt revealed, “Ronaldo asked me to go to Juventus. I was surprised by his request, which is why I laughed.
I didn’t understand him at first.”
