Given the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are both captains of their national teams, they also had a saying in the final decision. Players were not allowed to vote for themselves, but the two superstars avoided to nominate each other.

According to Sky Sports, Cristiano Ronaldo voted for his Real Madrid team-mates, in the following order: Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo.

Lionel Messi chose more or less the same approach, as he voted for two Barcelona team-mates – Luis Suarez (1st) and Andres Iniesta (2nd), and a former Barcelona team-mate, currently with PSG, Neymar (3rd)
