The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been included in the seven-man sports’ GOAT list by snooker world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan.
One of the most prevalent, and rather sensitive, debates among the football fanatics is who among Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi deserves the status of the ‘GOAT’, as in the greatest footballer of all time.
Those who support FC Barcelona or have ties to Argentina tend to vouch for Messi and mention his six Ballon d’Or awards and mouthwatering goalscoring, among a plethora of other things, statistics to support their argument.
Ronaldo’s supporters usually indicate that he is the greatest goalscorer in Champions League history, has won a title with his national team, has proved himself with different teams in different leagues, has scored more overall goals than his nemesis, among many other points.
Many Managers, players, and journalists have attempted to settle this heated debate over the years but a satisfactory conclusion is yet to be reached.
Involvement in the discussion has now been witnessed from an unrelated realm, only snooker world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has given the GOAT status to both the superstars.
“A lot of the sports I watch… the people that have done it, you have to look whether it’s a level playing field,” said O’Sullivan, reports Daily Star.
“I just think sport is where there is no advantage. You don’t get to choose your opponent or have better equipment.
“So for me, [Roger] Federer, [Rafael] Nadal, [Novak] Djokovic, Phil Taylor in darts, Tiger Woods, Messi, Ronaldo… it’s there to see [among the greatest sporting icons].”
