Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario professed his “love” for Kylian Mbappe and fully understands why the young star is often compared to him.
At just 20 years old, Mbappe has already joined Ronaldo as one of the most renown footballers in the world following an incredible four years in his native France.
The forward rose to prominence at boyhood club AS Monaco, where he fired them to a first Ligue 1 title in 17 years and the Champions League semi-finals during the 2016/17 campaign.
Paris Saint-Germain quickly scooped in and signed Mbappe on loan before making his stay a permanent one last summer for a stunning €135m after he won the World Cup with France in Russia.
And Mbappe’s strong performances this season have left even the world’s most expensive player in Neymar languishing behind in the shadows upon scoring an impressive 39 goals in 43 games.
The France international’s growing profile has even seen him become likened to the legendary Ronaldo. Observers have noted the similarities the duo share in terms of raw pace, skill and scoring prowess.
Therefore, La Liga giants Real Madrid are reportedly keen to seal a world record move for the highly-talented Mbappe in the summer.
On whether he agrees with the comparisons made between himself and Mbappe, Ronaldo told Marca: “Yes, I do. I love him.
“He’s fast, can finish and he’s only 20 years old. We’ve known about him for three years already because he has a lot of talent.
“I don’t know how players are valued at what they are now, but who am I to speak? People paid a lot of money for me, and for [Zinedine] Zidane. It’s a normal evolution in football.”
Should Mbappe indeed make the move to Real in the summer, he will link up with another exciting young talent in Vinicius Junior.
The 18-year-old winger quickly adjusted to the demands of Spanish football and proved to be a rare highlight in an otherwise dreadful campaign for Los Blancos.
And Ronaldo isn’t the least bit surprised by his compatriot’s progress in Spain.
“He has a lot of quality and that’s why Madrid paid €40million. When they put him in the team they saw what he has,” said Ronaldo.
“He’s not fully formed, but he’s 18 years old and it’ll come. He’s an incredible player and will bring a lot of joy.”
Vinicius finished his debut campaign for Real on three goals and 12 assists in 31 appearances.
