Cristiano Ronaldo was not in sight as UEFA released the shortlist for the Men’s Player of the Year award. Fans are not pleased at all.
Despite another impressive individual season for Juventus, Ronaldo was left out of the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year shortlist.
CR7 defied all odds at his age and was involved in a club-record 37 goals in only 46 appearances in all competitions. Of course, his goals led Juve to their ninth consecutive Serie A title.
The Champions League was perhaps the let-down for Ronaldo. He managed only four goals and Juventus suffered a shock exit by their own standards. However, the Portuguese ace saw his long-range effort crowned the goal of the tournament.
CR7 has won the UEFA award three times in total and has been nominated nine times. This year, there was no space for the superstar as the trio of Robert Lewandowski, Kevin De Bruyne and Manuel Neuer filled all the slots.
Asides Ronaldo, his eternal rival in Lionel Messi was another shock omission. In fact, it is the first time since 2010 both names are not on the UEFA shortlist.
Some set of fans feel it is injustice for the Juventus ace and took to share their thoughts on social media. We compile some of the best takes so far courtesy fan-inclined site Goal.
One fan says Ronaldo should clearly be in the running and Messi was rightly omitted.
