Ronaldo thinks he deserves more accolades than Messi

As part of his extended interview with Pier Morgan on ITV, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about his rivalry with Lionel Messi again.

We all saw the moving moment in which Cristiano Ronaldo cried after watching unseen footage of his father, but he also dropped some gems about his rivalry with Lionel Messi.

We recently saw the two stars sharing the stage at the UEFA Awards Ceremony, they will certainly do the same later this month at the FIFA The Best Gala and the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

These two monsters of the sport appear to be connected for life, they have transformed this beautiful sport into a game that only they can play.

We’ve established many times that comparing them is not wise because they are equally great, but their personalities are too different for that.

While Messi truly doesn’t care about ending his career with fewer awards than Ronaldo, Cristiano confessed he is obsessed with that notion.

Although the Portuguese player has the utmost respect for Leo and praises him whenever he can, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t consider himself better than the Argentine.

You can ask Ronaldo 10 times where he ranks himself among the best players who ever lived, you will get the same answer every single time.

His Mentality is what drives him to improve every day, he doesn’t look like he will stop anytime soon.

“I would love to win more Ballon d’Or trophies, and I think I deserve it,” Ronaldo told Piers Morgan.

“Messi is a fantastic guy, a fantastic player. He’s in the history of football – but I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him.”

“My relationship with him is, we are not friends, but we have shared this stage for 15 years.”

“I have a good relationship with him and I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well.”

“I’m sure I’m in the history of football for what I have done and what I’m continuing to do, but one of the best players in history.”

“For me, the number one in history, but for some fans, if the number one is another one and I’m second, it doesn’t matter.”

“I know I’m in the history of football as one of the greatest ever.”

“It’s part of my sacrifice, my obsession to win, to have success. When I say success, I have worked for that. Talent is not enough, I dedicate so much that this is part of me, records are part of me.”

“I don’t follow the records, the records follow me. I’m addicted to the success, and I don’t think it’s something bad, I think it’s good. It motivates me. If you’re not motivated, it’s better to stop,” added Ronaldo.

Who will finish on top?

As we realize that Ronaldo wants us to keep comparing both players, we put our money on Cristiano finishing his career above Lionel for one simple reason.

Since Messi has never been that interested in competing with the Portuguese player on a personal level, we believe that he will retire sooner.

To be completely honest, Messi is already starting to look tired of so many years playing at the highest level and he may choose to play for a less competitive league in the near future.

We certainly don’t see the Argentine playing until he is 40 as Ronaldo has stated many times in recent years.

Even though both players seem to enjoy time with their families, Ronaldo is still more obsessed with work than Leo will ever be.

The Barcelona idol is already starting to think about life after football and enjoying his well-earned money next to his family.

Ronaldo wants all the records and we think Messi will let him keep them, history is the one that will decide who the better player is.

All we can tell you is that we feel extremely privileged for living in the same era as both legends, history books will put them down as two of the greatest athletes who ever lived.

We are still waiting for whoever buys the rights for a documentary that describes their rivalry in detail.
