AS Monaco have announced that Rony Lopes has signed a new long-term contract with them until June 2022

The 22-year-old midfielder arrived at Monaco in 2015 from boyhood club Manchester City after spending some time on loan at Lille OSC.

Lopes had been linked with a surprise return to City this year after impressing at Monaco last season.

However, the Portugal international has instead decided to commit his future at the Stade Louis II.

“I am very happy here in Monaco,” Lopes said in a statement on Twitter.

“I want to thank the leaders, the staff, my team-mates and the fans for all the trust and support.

“Last season changed a lot for me. We must continue on this path to get even more.

Lopes has scored twice in seven appearances for Monaco this season.
