Wayne Rooney believes Manchester City’s weak defense will be targeted by Real Madrid, but he insists they can holdout for a Champions League win.

Manchester City prepares to host Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 match.

The Cityzens hold a slender but valuable two-one lead from the first game at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Perhaps most importantly Los Blancos will also be without their highly influential captain Sergio Ramos, who is suspended.

As far as Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is concerned there is no better chance for City to get a huge win over the Spanish giants and progress to the quarter-finals.

Writing for The Times, Rooney is backing the Sky Blues to get a result. He is concerned about City’s suspect defense that has struggled against top opposition this season.

Rooney is expecting the La Liga Champions to go on the attack and target their weaknesses.

He said:

“City may never have a better chance to win the Champions League.”

“Sergio Ramos is suspended which is a huge loss to the Real defense and I think City will score.”

“Whether they are solid enough at the back themselves is my only question.”

“Real will target their center-halves and it’s a worry that this season every other Premier League ‘Big Six’ club beat City. This shows Guardiola’s team can struggle to keep the best sides out.”

Rooney may be backing City, but what do the bookies say?
