Rooney’s move to the MLS to be confirmed today

Wayne Rooney’s expected move to MLS side DC United is expected to be confirmed later today once he arrives in America, reports Sky Sports

The former England captain will arrive at Washington around 7 pm (BST) today and will be expected to sign a three-and-a-half year contract with DC United.

Rooney will then hold a press conference on Monday to confirm his arrival at the American capital with his visa and work permit now secured.

While the Manchester United all-time record goalscorer cannot officially join the club until the beginning of the American transfer window on July 10, Rooney is expected to join his new teammates for training by the end of the week.

Should everything go smoothly, then Rooney may make his debut for DC United in their league game against Vancouver Whitecaps at the opening of the new £140m 20,000-seater Audi Field stadium in Washington.
