The new AS Monaco manager reportedly hopes to sign players this summer that he already knows, with Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic one of them.
Jovic hasn’t lived up to expectations at Real Madrid following a €60m transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, which could now send him packing to Monaco for next season.
A move away from the Bernabeu, however, could be what Jovic needs. He made just four starts in La Liga alone this season, as Karim Benzema remained Zinedine Zidane’s first-choice striker. In fact, he played just 420 minutes of the club’s triumphant league campaign.
Reports have since linked the 22-year-old with loan moves to Newcastle United, Leicester City, and AC Milan recently.
According to France Football, though, Monaco could sign Jovic on a permanent deal instead. Kovac, who replaced the ousted Robert Moreno as manager last month, has allegedly convinced him.
The Balkan coach was the one who signed Jovic for Eintracht in 2017 on a two-year loan deal from Benfica, He played a key role in the striker’s adaption to Bundesliga football before leaving for Bayern Munich a year later.
Moreover, Monaco’s strong financial position means they’re prepared to splash the cash. Although it’s still unlikely Real Madrid will get their €60m back, thanks to the financial implications of COVID-19.
West Ham striker Sebastien Haller is another player on Monaco’s shortlist should Wissam Ben Yedder leave the club this summer.
