A report claims Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken with Ivan Rakitic about a potential transfer from Barcelona this summer.
Ivan Rakitic is all but expected to leave Barcelona this summer.
Struggles for consistent game-time at the Nou Camp this term means the Catalan side will have no problem in letting the Croat go.
However, a report from French outlet Le10Sport claims an offer from Premier League side Arsenal could be on the cards.
The report even goes on to claim that Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta has already spoken to the 32-year-old on phone about a potential move.
Arteta is gearing up for his first summer at the helm at the Emirates. He has been boosted by the FA Cup final victory which has ensured that the Gunners will be playing in Europe next season.
And with Rakitic in the final year of his Barcelona contract, he is expected to be available for a bargain price this summer. Something that will be of interest to an Arsenal side with a ‘tight’ budget ahead of the summer.
Arteta told the midfielder about his plans to make him the focal point of the Gunner’s centre game. Having spent almost all of his career in Spain, the report also says the 32-year-old is rather looking to remain in La Liga or join an Italian side.
However, Rakitic has not completely shut the door on the possibility of moving to England. It won’t be the first time the Croat has been linked with the Gunners.
