Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic revealed they were turned down by Jadon Sancho in favour of Borussia Dortmund
Sancho’s decision to choose Dortmund over Bayern in 2017 breaks a trend that has been set across the last several years.
This involved the likes of Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels all swapping Dortmund for Bayern.
But Sancho’s decision to joined the Lucien Favre’s side instead has paid dividends with the teenage winger a prominent member of the Dortmund team that lead the Bundesliga after 11 games.
“The truth is that Bayern Munich did want to sign Jadon Sancho and made him an offer which he, unfortunately, refused,” Salihamidzic told Sport Bild.
Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, confessed that there had a great amount of interest in Sancho before he arrived at Signal Iduna Park.
“In the course of the talks, It was clear that top clubs from home and abroad also had great interest in [Sancho],” admits Zorc.
“Fortunately, we tried very hard for him at an early stage.”
The 18-year-old has managed five goals and eight assists in 17 appearances for Dortmund this season.
