A Jadon Sancho inspired Borussia Dortmund beat Slavia Prague 2-1 to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
After the last round of games, the only team guaranteed a place in the next round.
Champions League from Group F winners was Barcelona.
Slavia Prague had secured last place.
That left Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan to duke it out for the second place.
However, Inter playing two hours earlier went down 1-2 to Barcelona.
The Germans went into this one knowing that the result was of little consequence.
Lucien Favre’s team’s recent form suggested that this game was not as easy as it looked on paper.
The hosts though got off to a flying start.
With only ten minutes on the clock when England international Sancho opened the scoring.
He got on the end of Marco Reus cross. Sancho subsequently fired the ball home from close range.
Slavia was intent on making something if the game though. The visitors snatched an equalizer just before half-time.
Tomas Soucek, linked up with Milan Skoda to make 1 – 1 at the interval.
The second half saw Sancho add an assist to his night’s impressive stats. As he turned provider setting up Julian Brandt in the 61st minute.
Brandt beat Slavia keeper Koalr from a tight angle 2-1 Dortmund.
They held on for the last 15 or so minutes, after Julian Weigl’s red card.
