Maurizio Sarri wants to help Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi to the next Ballon d’Or.
The two footballing superstars had been tied on five apiece.
But following a slower than usual season for Ronaldo after his move to Serie A, Messi stole the march on his adversary.
Picking up the sixth award has put Messi at the top of the footballing accolades chart alone pushing the Portuguese into second.
In an interview according to Goal, Ronaldo’s current boss Sarri wants to right this imbalance in the footballing universe.
The Italian tactician does not believe anyone should sit above his talisman.
“I would like to help Cristiano win the sixth Ballon d’Or first.”
“It’s really annoying thinking that someone won more [Ballons d’Or] than him.”
“I think about him and I think helping him, it is my goal and the goal of the team. It is right for him.”
