Paul Scholes has questioned United’s signing of Odion Ighalo, claiming he’s got to prove he has the necessary “quality”.
Ighalo was United’s answer as they searched desperately to secure a striker in the winter window.
Despite having history in the premier League with Watford, many have questioned the quality he brings to the United team.
And now, Scholes has also questioned the credibility of the Nigeria international’s record in China and whether he has the ability to score goals at Old Trafford.
He told Robbie Savage’s Premier League Breakfast via Football 365: “I don’t think Ighalo is a signing for the long term. I think his scoring record in China is very good, but is it that credible? I don’t know.
“He is an out-and-out centre forward, I don’t think United have an out-and-out centre forward. He’ll play with his back to goal and he might bring players into play.
“It’s good to have an extra body, but when you’re United you want an extra body with quality and he’s got that to prove.
“He’ll bring something different. I don’t see him starting many games.”
Ighalo is expected to play some part in United’s fixture against Chelsea on Monday.. despite missing their training camp due to coronavirus concerns.
