Former Real Madrid coach and player Bernd Schuster fears his old side are failing because they never replaced Cristiano Ronaldo.

This is Real Madrid’s second season without Cristiano Ronaldo, and their second season without a suitable replacement.

This is the belief of the club’s one-time player and coach Bernd Schuster.

In an interview reported by Goal, the German believes it will ultimately cost his old club any kind of major success until they find a suitable replacement.

He said:

“The problem for Real Madrid is that they have lacked a No.9 for two years since Cristiano left.”

The numbers alone speak for themselves.

Real front line options include Gareth Bale, Luka Jovic, Vinicius Jr, and Karim Benzema.

Bale is injured more than he is fit and a poor relationship with Zidane has not helped.

Jovic and Vinicius are both young and struggling with the burden of being the main man.

While Benzema is a pedigree striker, but at 32 it is perhaps just too much to ask.

Funny but is it that far from the truth?
