Schweinsteiger will be a father

The Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United star and his partner Ana Ivanovic have announced that the couple are expecting their first child

The World Cup winner has revealed that his family is to welcome a new arrival, with the midfielder currently turning out in MLS with the Chicago Fire, GOAL reports.

Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic married in July 2016, and they are now expecting their first kid, as they informed on social media.

The German star announced the good news on his Twitter profile: “We are expecting a new family member and are so grateful!”

Schweinsteiger was free to make a move after Jose Mourinho made it clear he doesn’t need the 34-year-old at Manchester United and he joined MLS team Chicago Fire.

The Germany international emerged from Bayern Munich’s youth academy system, and went on to win the Champions League alongside eight Bundesliga titles.

He even managed to win the World Cup with Germany before departing from Munich to join Manchester United back in 2015.

Despite his not very successful years in England, Schweinsteiger has shown what he’s still capable of since he moved to America.

The 34-year-old has a contract with Chicago until the end of the seasons, but the American club have expressed their wishes to extend the German’s deal.

“We remain optimistic that Basti and we will reach a mutually satisfactory agreement and that he will return,” General Manager Nelson Rodriguez said.

“I won’t put a timeline on it. I think Basti has proven his importance to our club and to our team and that remains a priority to bring him back,” he added.

However, his future at the club could be in danger if the couple decides to bring up a family somewhere else, for example Schweinsteiger’s home country, Germany, or the home of Ivanovic, which is Serbia.
