Senegal boss Aliou Cisse has pledged to do all he can to ensure that Sadio Mane is fully recovered for their World Cup campaign
The Liverpool forward is being viewed as the nation’s main hope at Russia after an impressive season which saw him score 10 goals in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
The Lions of Teranga are hopeful that Mane will be able to carry on with his fine form at the World Cup by emulating former Liverpool forward El-Hadji Diouf at the 2002 World Cup, where he led Senegal to the quarter-finals.
The good news is that Cisse usually adopts a similar 4-3-3 formation that Mane has at Liverpool.
The 26-year-old has a reputation for scoring in big games and, along with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in defence and Everton’s Idrissa Gueye in midfield, Senegal are hopeful of doing well at Russia.
“We have been setting up special training for him to rest and recover, so that he can have time to breathe,” said Cisse, according to the Daily Mirror.
After defeating South Korea 2-0 in the final warm-up game, Senegal will now face Poland in Group H for their opening World Cup game.
