Sergi Roberto: Nobody expected Zidane’s return

Sergi Roberto has revealed that Barcelona players were surprised at the return of Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid.

The Catalans would be somewhat wary of Zizou’s return owing to the fact he helped arch-rivals Madrid regain their dominance in Europe.

Madrid’s top executives dismissed Santiago Solari after leading the club to one of their poorest runs in recent times to appoint the French manager.

And Sergi Roberto has spoken about the Frenchman’s return, as well as his side’s chances in the Champions League.

“His return surprised me,” the Catalan revealed via Marca.

“I don’t think anybody expected it, but they’ve decided to make Zidane their coach.

“He has brought them many titles, but we have to focus on our own business and on finishing the season off well.”

Sergi Roberto played his team’s chances in Europe after acknowledging that all the teams can win the trophy at this stage.

“We’re not favourites [in the Champions League], not at all.”All teams are favourites now.

Report: New offers for Neymar Jr. proposed

In a surprising twist, Real Madrid are reportedly attempting a swoop for PSG star Neymar Jr. with news of other players being offered as...

“Any team can fall, as we’ve already seen, and any opponent will be difficult.”

Speaking about the Catalans chances of a treble, the player made it clear they’d give it their best shot.

“Right not we’re in the final of the Copa del Rey and in a good position in the league, although there is a long way to go.

“We’ve gone through in the Champions League, so the dream of a treble is still possible.

“It’d be a dream for us and we’ll fight to the end to try to achieve it.”

The La Masia youth graduate was also asked for his opinion on the prospect of another match between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They’ve met in the past and if they meet again then it’ll be one more,” he said.

“The important thing is that we’ve made it through.”
