The Barcelona midfielder is embracing the prospect of taking on CR7 ahead of the Nations League clash between Spain and Portugal.

Spain captain Sergio Busquets is looking forward to facing Cristiano Ronaldo again.

The pair have met numerous times on the pitch across their club and international careers. In fact, Thursday’s UEFA Nations League match between Busquets’ Spain and Ronaldo’s Portugal is set to be their 37th showdown overall

“It was a beautiful time to live, and besides that, to play against this kind of player or against teams like Real Madrid – always a classic in every competition – is what every player wishes and wants,” Busquets told reporters about facing Ronaldo during a pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

“So I’m happy to experience this again and to keep playing these games.”

What is Busquets’ record against CR7?

Busquets has faced Ronaldo 36 times across his career so far. He has been on the winning team 17 times, settled for 10 draws, and lost just nine times against the Portuguese icon.

The bulk of their encounters have been in La Liga from Ronaldo’s days at Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

On the international scene, Busquets has helped Spain to two wins and three draws in six games (L1) against Ronaldo and Portugal. Their only defeat came in a 4-0 thumping in November 2010.

The most memorable meeting between the duo was in the 2018 World Cup when Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to snatch Portugal a superb 3-3 draw against Spain in Russia.
