Sergio Reguilon refuses to dwell on rumors linking him to Chelsea while still on loan at Sevilla, but didn’t rule out anything either.
Sergio Reguilon has joined the transfer merry-go-round as suitors from across Europe keep tabs on him, including Premier League sides Chelsea and Everton.
The left-back has enjoyed a solid season on loan at Sevilla from Real Madrid, managing two goals and four assists in 31 La Liga outings and impressing with consistently strong displays.
What happens from next season onwards, however, is uncertain. Reguilon could do another season on loan at Sevilla with Julen Lopetegui. The Rojiblancos coach has always rated him highly and gave him his Real Madrid breakthrough last season.
But Reguilon’s rising stock has led to interest from clubs in the Bundesliga, Serie A, and the Premier League. And with Real Madrid allegedly open to a sale, the race is on.
Chelsea are among those interested in the 23-year-old, as they seek a much cheaper alternative than Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
Speaking ahead of Sevilla’s last-16 tie against AS Roma in the Europa League, however, Reguilon is not taking these rumors as anything more than a compliment.
“If my year at Sevilla had not been good, then this would not be happening. These teams would not ring,” he told Marca.
“If I am fine, the team is fine and the club is fine, everyone is happy. But I do not think about these possibilities now – I’m sorry if that sounds like a cliché.
“I’ve been saying since quarantine that until the season isn’t over I won’t be talking about my future.
“Until then it would be unfair on myself, my team-mates and the club.
“I have no complaints about anything, about the city, the club, my colleagues. I feel very loved. Who knows what will happen in the future.”
