After inspiring Juventus to a late comeback win over Udinese, Ronaldo has built a strong lead in the Capocannoniere race.

After finishing fourth in 2018/19 and runner-up last season, Cristiano Ronaldo is edging closer to becoming the Italian goal king in his third campaign.

The 36-year-old has been sensational in an otherwise nightmare season for Juventus. He has contributed towards 43% of the club’s 67 goals, despite missing four games and starting from the bench twice.

Sunday’s 2-1 win over Udinese proved yet again Ronaldo’s importance.

Despite Juve going a goal down in the first half, Ronaldo turned it up when it really mattered to fire in two late goals. It sealed a superb comeback win and sent his club back into the Serie A top-four.

He now has a six-goal lead over Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku in the goal charts. Simy (Crotone), Luis Muriel (Atalanta), Dusan Vlahovic (Fiorentina), and Ciro Immobile (Lazio) are all tied in third place on 19 goals each.

Inter Milan crowned league champions

Juventus’ nine-year dominance in Serie A, however, has officially ended.

Atalanta’s 1-1 draw against Sassuolo on Sunday confirmed Inter Milan as the new champions of Italy. The Nerazzurri have a 13-point lead with only four games of the season left.

But while their title defense is over, Ronaldo and Juventus are still in danger of finishing outside the top-four. Only two points lie between them and fifth-placed Napoli in the standings.

The Bianconeri will face AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium in Turin next Sunday.
