Sevilla boss: I won’t look at the La Liga table

Pablo Machin will not be looking at the league table after Sevilla took the top spot from Barcelona on Sunday

Los Rojiblancos are the surprise leaders of La Liga on 16 points after the opening eight games of the new season following Barcelona and Real Madrid’s recent struggles.

Goals from Pablo Sarabia and Wissam Ben Yedder in Sevilla’s 2-1 win against Celta Vigo sealed their place at the top of the league standings for the international break.

However, with Barcelona awaiting them for their next fixture on October 20 at the Camp Nou, Machin is taking nothing for granted.

“We are positioning ourselves at the top of the table, we are effectively taking advantage of the opportunities we generate,” Machin said on FourFourTwo.

“But we know that there will be moments of doubt, that they will get better because we know what we are capable of, if we continue like this we will be up in the table.

Ter Stegen saves Barcelona blushes but things aren’t looking too good

While Barcelona did manage to hold Borussia Dortmund to a goalless draw, it is clear that the Spanish giants are not their usual selves...

“But the season is super long and we must be calm, if you do not look at the table it does not give you vertigo.”

Sevilla have now won their last six games in succession, which also includes a 3-0 thrashing of Real last month, across all competitions.
