It looks like Takefusa Kubo will spend another season away from Real Madrid on loan, with Sevilla reportedly favorites.
Kubo has just completed a season-long spell for RCD Mallorca, providing four goals and four assists in 35 La Liga games. The team may have suffered relegation, but he proved his worth at the highest level.
Now it’s a matter of what next for the 19-year-old? He could spend next season at Real Madrid, although opportunities may be restricted. A loan move away from the Bernabeu, therefore, could be his best option.
And Kubo certainly isn’t short of options as Villareal, Real Sociedad, and Granada are all interested.
Joining Villareal or Real Sociedad would be a good next step for Kubo as they’re both set to compete in next season’s Europa League.
Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain have also reportedly expressed an interest in the former Barcelona youth player.
According to Estadio Deportivo, however, Kubo would favor a move to Sevilla. The Andalusian club need reinforcements down the flanks; as Nolito has left and Rony Lopes may follow.
Therefore, sporting director Monchi has laid eyes on Kubo and intends to use his good relationship with Real Madrid to seal a loan move for the teenager.
Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui, who briefly coached Real Madrid himself between July and October 2018, is also an admirer. He believes Kubo can offer more depth and verticality upfront.
Sergio Reguilon’s successful loan spell this season appears to have also convinced Zinedine Zidane that Sevilla would be an ideal destination for Kubo to gain more valuable experience.
The fact that Sevilla will compete in next season’s Champions League is the icing on the cake.
