The German manager was coaching the Borussia Dortmund U23 players on Saturday, and today he’s with English Premier League club Huddersfield Town.
What do you do when you are last in the English Premier League and your manager just quit this week?
Well, you hire one coach who has been working with German Bundesliga first-place club Borussia Dortmund in order to try to bring some of that success to your team.
That’s how former Dortmund U23 manager Jan Siewert was hired by Huddersfield Town with the only objective of saving the team from relegation.
The club is currently in 20th place with only 11 points.
They have gotten two victories, five draws, and 16 defeats so far in the 2018-2019 season.
The team has received 40 goals and scored only 13 in 23 matches.
“I get frustrated when players don’t get it right tactically in certain situations,” Siewert told Deutsche Welle during his unveiling.
He believes he has “a good connection with the players. I know what I want and I demand it from my players.”
“Of course there are similarities in our playing style,” he said comparing the Dortmund U23 with the Huddersfield Town squad.
“But the most important thing is that I’m Jan Siewert.”
This is the first high-profile club Siewert has ever managed. He debuted as a coach with Rot-Weiss Essen in 2015, then the next year he was working with VfL Bochum U19s.
He transferred to the Borussia Dortmund youth squads in 2017 until this past Saturday.
