David Silva has urged his fellow Manchester City teammates to build on their historic record by winning the Champions League next season.

The Citizens went on a clean sweep of titles by becoming the first English team to win a domestic treble this season.

However, Silva, who will enter his 10th campaign at City next season, says success in Europe is his priority.

“In terms of titles, yes [this season is City’s most successful],” he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero. We’ve won more trophies than ever before but we’ve played well in other seasons, too.

“The club is growing more and more every year and now we’re looking for success in the Champions League.”

Silva believes a league campaign is more manageable than the European competition and admits the Blues must improve in their one-off showings next season.

“The Champions League is more difficult because it’s a knockout competition,” the midfielder said.

“If you lose concentration in a game you can be knocked out and that’s what happened to us.

“The league is more regular, you’ve got the whole year and we’ve been lucky enough to win the two cups.

“It’s football. When you lose you’ve got to accept it just like when you win. We’re professionals and we know it’s really difficult. What we’ve done this year, winning an unprecedented treble, is something we’ve got to enjoy after a long, hard year.”
