After a poor start to La Liga, Diego Simeone managed to steer Atletico Madrid’s rocking boat to a third-place finish.
Los Rojiblancos must has been pleased with their La Liga run but it is their Champions League continuity that is more impressive. They defeated the reigning Champions Liverpool and travel to Lisbon for the remaining fixtures.
Paulo Futre hailed El Cholo for his impact and believes as long as the Argentine is there, Atletico cannot be written off.
The retired winger shared his confidence in Simeone’s men and believes they can reach the Champions League final.
“Game by game, I am not afraid of any team,” Futre was quoted by Marca.
“As long as Simeone is there, I am not afraid of anyone for 90 or 120 minutes.
“Let’s see what will happen, but as an Atletico fan I have tremendous faith that we can be in the final.”
Champions League fixtures from the last eight until the final are bring hosted in Portugal. Futre shared that as a Portuguese it is an honor to host the competition and believes they will be able to successfully pull it off.
“For me, being Portuguese, it was an honour when they announced that they were going to play in Lisbon,” Futre commented.
“The Portuguese have acted very well with this pandemic and I think it will be a success.
“There will not be fans, but it will definitely be a success.
“It is a shame that people cannot go to the matches, but it is what it is, and it is an honour that it will take place in Lisbon.”
