Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone backed Diego Costa to remain at the club ahead of their game against Girona at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Costa has missed a large chunk of the campaign and has equally been ruled out for the Girona clash.
However, Simeone is confident the Spaniard’s future lies at the club despite rumours of a likely exit from the capital.
“He is definitely out of contention for this game and we hope he will be back on Saturday,” he said at a press conference cited on Marca.
“Regarding Costa and [Alvaro] Morata, we cannot look too far ahead and we have to take it game by game.
“As for Costa, I have complete confidence in him and I hope that he stays next year.”He is a hugely important player for us.
“It is no coincidence that since he re-signed for us we have won trophies.”
The Argentine quickly brushed aside reports of discontent in the dressing room regarding Antoine Griezmann.
“We are more than happy with how he is playing,” he said.
“He was unhappy to come off at 3-0 up the other day because he wanted to carry on playing.
“He is one of our captains, he has a great relationship with the rest of the team and we hope he finds his goalscoring form again soon.”
Griezmann and Costa have both been pivotal to Atletico Madrid’s success in recent years with both players involved in the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup triumphs.
