Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone will not be considering a sale of Diego Costa in the January transfer window
The ex-Chelsea striker has only found the net four times in 15 appearances across all competitions this season for Atletico.
And Costa will now likely be sidelined until January, at the earliest, for Atletico after undergoing surgery on a foot problem.
However, amid reported interested from Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian, Simeone assured everyone that Costa will still be at Madrid come February.
“I hope, wish for and need Diego Costa in February, no doubt about it, and I believe he will be there,” said Simeone, according to SportsMax.
Los Colchoneros have drawn three of their last five La Liga matches heading into Saturday’s visit to Real Valladolid.
While Atletico have only lost once this season in the league, they’ve drawn seven times in their 15 games.
But a win at Valladolid will see them draw level on points with leaders Barcelona in La Liga – until the Catalan side plays Levante on Sunday, at least.
“I think that Atletico fans fully appreciate what we’re doing and the job the players have been doing for several years now, but of course the demand now increased,” added Simeone.
“We have new responsibilities and need to be self-critical. We have to be demanding of ourselves.
“We’ve had four draws away [in a row in the league], so we need to improve to give a solution to what the fans demand.
“I’m the most self-critical, with myself first of all, and as I said, being in second place now is not good for Atletico.”
