Atletico Madrid take on the challenge of RB Leipzig and Diego Simeone cannot stop raving about their rivals and their young manager.
Atletico Madrid overcame Liverpool to book their place in UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. They have another tough task as they lock horns with RB Leipzig.
The German side will be without striker Timo Werner but are unfazed of the situation. Julian Nagelsmann is undeterred and Diego Simeone is wary of the Bundesliga side.
Ahead of the fixture, El Cholo hailed Die Roten Bullen and Nagelsmann. He had nothing but praise for the young German manager’s work. Simeone hailed how Leipzig quickly transition in their attack.
“It’s a big match against a fantastic team and coach,” Marca quoted Simeone in his pre-match press conference.
“They change positions constantly and they attack a lot.
“Their numbers show what they’re capable of, so we have a lot of respect for them.”
Simeone also played down Atletico’s victory over European champions Liverpool. The Argentine has that match in the back view mirror as it was over four months ago.
“I don’t think the win over Liverpool can be a reference point because the enthusiasm faded over time,” El Cholo added.
“That win was a long time ago.”
