After a poor run of recent form, Lazio has slipped to fourth place in Serie A standing but their Champions League qualification is secure.
Ciro Immobile’s goals catapulted Lazio into title challengers. The Roman club enjoyed pole position for some weeks but have since seen their Serie A title chance slip.
Despite their recent form, Simone Inzaghi is pleased with the performance of his players.
The retired forward hailed Verona, their next opponents, whilst sharing optimism about his side’s future. Inzaghi stated that the Romans can call this season a success after ensuring Champions League qualification.
“We know this is a tough game and we are up against a Verona side who have done so well this season, but we’ll try to put in a strong performance, regardless of the situation in the table,” Inzaghi told Lazio Style Channel [via Football Italia].
“We have reached our main objective, a top-four finish. There are still three rounds to go, so we’ve got to end it in the best possible way.”
Lazio has been plagued by injuries and fitness ever since Serie A returned after the coronavirus pandemic enforced lockdown.
The list of players unavailable for selection has increased with every passing week. Inzaghi gave an update on his squad and the player’s fitness.
“I have a few decisions to make, we have to see how some have recovered from the last game and today’s training session. Francesco Acerbi, Adam Marusic, Denis Vavro and Danilo Cataldi probably will travel with us, but are not in great shape.”
“The others will be ready, except for suspended Manuel Lazzari, while Senad Lulic, Stefan Radu, and Lucas Leiva are out for the rest of the season.”
