Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari insists there are no undisputed starters amid the uncertainty surrounding Isco’s role in the team

Los Blancos will be back in action on Thursday night, where they will host the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie with Spanish third division side UD Melilla.

Real head into the game with a 4-0 lead from the first-leg after goals from Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Alvaro Odriozola and Cristo.

Therefore, with such a strong advantage, Solari is expected to rest some of his key players with the out-of-favour Isco set to get the nod for Thursday.

The Spain international is yet to handed a start by Solari in his seven games in charge after making a 10-minute cameo in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Valencia.

“There are 24 players in the squad, plus the Castilla kids who can play,” said Solari on ESPN, when asked about Isco’s lack of starts.

Solari: Real Madrid will fight for La Liga title until the end

Manager Santiago Solari insists Real Madrid will not give up on winning La Liga, despite falling nine points behind leaders Barcelona.

“They all have to work with intensity and motivation and spirit. That is what we all want, to see that reflected on the pitch.

“I don’t believe in the concept of undisputed starters — I didn’t as a player, either. I think it’s great that everything is disputed, up for grabs.

“In football, players can have a dip in form or be in fantastic form. The coach’s job is to choose well, and try not to make mistakes.

“Of course there are players who play very well always, so they are starters for 10 years in a team. But no player is indisputable for their name.”

Gareth Bale (thigh) and Toni Kroos (knee) are sidelined for Real this week, although Solari suggested that the Welshman will turn up for this Sunday’s La Liga game at SD Huesca.
